Continuation, yes. Birth, no. Liberation Theology began in 1955 in Brazil
as "Conselho Episcopal Latino Americano" in which Jesus was proffered not so
much as savior but rather as liberator. It was called then, rightly so,
Christian Socialism.
Black Liberation Theology began in 1966 with the National Committee of Negro
Churchmen and patterned itself after the already established South American
liberation theology. </HTML>
