Lisa,
Good to hear James, Gene, Don, and Rob in WA, are still around. Of course
that includes you and Bev too! I will be anxious to see what you all are
talking about now.....besides the economy and gas and war.
I'll be peaking in every now and then to say hi. I'm not much of a chatter
box unless I desperately need some help on something I'm working with. With
my Bob gone, life is not easy.
Have a wonderful evening.
Linda*

James, Don and Rob are around. There are now two Rob's: Rob in WA (formerly
MN) and Rob in VA. And a wide assortment of other people as well.
I'm glad to no longer talk about mortgages (closed last loan 8/06), now my

Support Professional) to a 24/7 live-in client.

Welllll, you're half right <g> The law isn't on the books the way the judge
decided it is. The R4 does not require credentialled teachers. The judge
decided that parents weren't elligible to use the R4. That isn't the law
and the law clearly reads that anyone can be a private school. It even
divides the R4 up into categories for 1-5 students and 6 or more students.
And you're right about the teapot. It has a name, H$LDA!

O.K., silly me, I was hoping that the hysteria wouldn't reach this far <g>
The California case is about ONE family who has been in the Family Law
courts for TWENTY years over sexual and physical abuse of their children.
Daddy Dearest refused, yet again, to abide by the rules the court set
down -- 1) update the homeschooling texts from the 70s to current materials
and 2) have the local school district review and help, if needed, to bring
the curriculum into line with the DOE. Mom got newer workbooks but Daddy
Dearest refused to meet with the local school principal. He also kicked the
social worker out of the house. He refused to come up with a birth
certificate on one of the children who was in foster care. He hid the wife
and kids. He generally made some simple stuff beyond difficult. The judge
got bent out of shape and said put the two kids remaining in the home in
public school or they can go into foster care with the older daughter who
had filed the complaint about physical abuse by Daddy Dearest and sexual
abuse by Daddy Dearest good friend Lynn C. A good friend who had been
accused of sexually abusing another one of the daughters 10 or 15 years
prior to this.
Even the do nothing governor has stated that this will not effect
homeschoolers and if anyone tries he'll shove legislation through to make
schooling choice law.
This whole hysteria thing is being fueled by a membership drive by that
IDIOT Mike Farris and H$LDA and that sicko Dobson!
California homeschooling is alive and well and not going to disappear. AND,
teacher credentials won't be required for the simple reason that the judge
doesn't even know how to read California law. California doesn't require
teaching credential for parents who do teaching in California public schools
and if the ruling is allowed to stand it will necessitate the hiring of
hundreds, if not a thousands, more teachers and effectively bankrupt the
state! California has about 100,000 students in charter ISPs, brick and
mortar ISPs and charter cyber schools, plus the 200,000 homeschoolers all
of
whom would need to have a teacher hired! That would be about 100,000 new
teachers at $120,000/year (salary, bennies, per diem for travel time) for a
total of $12,000,000,000/year. Ain't gonna happen!
Lynda, supremely tired of H$LDA's fearmongering!

Wow, asparagus in early March. Like when we grew the most beautiful red
peppers until Thanksgiving in Charleston, SC. Can't imagine gardening in a
climate such as TX or coastal SC right now, meanwhile we're getting light
flurries but the leaves of the daffodils are above ground and the first
crocus opened two days ago.

Must? That is an imperative. Of course, we must fight to protect
ourselves or those we care about. Unless we choose to be martyrs.
I once had a concealed weapon permit. I had a perfect score on the
written examination. One of the laws one must follow regards when
deadly force may be used. It is when we believe ourselves or another
is in peril of death unless the attacker is stopped. At such a moment
one does whatever is possible. Immediately.

Woke up to snow on the ground here this morning. It was just a dusting,
but snow nonetheless. It's supposed to be about 25 tonight and all the
fruit trees are about to bloom. They are at the stage that if you look
close, you can see the pink of the flower bud. We already done crocuses
and daffodils a few weeks ago.

Ghandi would disagree.
I'm not saying I think you are wrong in how you feel, I'm just saying,
Ghandi walked right under the clubs. The Honoured Uncle gave the
Robber his last shirt.
One thing I have learned to do is judge my actions against how they ar
going to effect ME. And I don't mean, in a materialistic calculating
way.
What I mean is, If I'm about to say something really catty, I've
learned to think about whether I really want to take that cattiness
internally. When I think of myself as the "er" part of the an
equation, it changes things.
I know, that doesn't make any sense. Let me try again. If I am having
a sarcastic conversation with someone, I'm not just being sarcastic
and hurtful to them. I'm bearing the brunt of carrying around sarcasm
and meanness.
It has taken a long time and a lot of help to get to this point. I
think it's a good one.
Anyway, I think pacifism of any sort is doomed to failure and long as
it is the thrust of our culture to be bigger, better, and have more
plastic crap than the next guy. Or, conversely, to think it's ok to
push one's opinions down someone else's throat, no matter how much you
want to save them.

Our daffs and crocuses are coming up now.
I love asparagus fries. With parmesan panko and garlic aoli. With
cornmeal and sweet tangy hickory sauce. Rice flour tempora and ginger
sauce.
I have this theory that eating fried veggies is a karmic wash. The
veggies negate the evilness of the frying. You can eat as much as you
want. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. : )
Now I'm hungry and can't wait for the asparagus to come up.
