We did a lot of looking for bamboo and were told there were quite a few that did either o.k. or well down to Zone 5. Here's one of the links that has one of the timber bamboos listed as growing up to 40' in Zone 6.

Bamboo seems to be "in" and has gotten quite pricey. I'd love to find some that didn't mean one had to hook the kids to get it.

transition area. If weather keeps warming as it has lately, we may be
solidly 6b. I would very much like to grow some bamboo for
