It's happened a number of times with me. Once, one of the cats who had
moved in long enough that we had him neutered showed up with a collar.
Jim called the number on the collar and found out his original home
was about half a mile north. He mostly stayed with us though. I guess
he wasn't too irritated with us that we had him neutered.

Another cat, who we also had neutered, was almost certainly a refugee
from another neighbor's, this one half a mile south. One election day
(Jim was a judge and the original owner was the Republican precinct
committeeman) the original owner was complaining to Jim that the one
halfway decent barn cat they had had disappeared. He described Pudding
exactly. Pudding, once he came here, has never left, and he's not a
barn cat any longer.

I've had cats do all sorts of things but never rip screens. Mostly,
they seem happy to get regular chow.
