A while back I submitted a link to a picture from Livermore, California. It's east of San Francisco, before you get to the Central Valley where Sac'to is located. The hills look bone dry when it's only June. There's nothing for grazing the entire rest of the summer. There's miles more exactly like it!

To resolve the question is easy. Are eastern dairy farms usually irrigated? Ours are all irrigated here, in this part of the "Pacific Northwest". That's because there's no forage otherwise after June.
