I have no desire or intention to
move, but in the event something happens and I do have to put the house
up for sale(death, divorce, whatever) how will the whole bubble bursting
thing affect me? How do I prepare?

First, relax. Life is imperfect. Accept it. Enjoy each day. We homesteader types are about as prepared as possible for bad times. Lots of gold is the other primary option. Security is mostly between the ears.

As for real estate, local conditions always trump national conditions. Those areas that have had extraordinary appreciation rates are most susceptible to falling or moderating rates. Areas with declining population or declining jobs will see declining prices. Areas with growing population and increasing numbers of jobs will continue to have strong real estate appreciation rates.
