Someone here asked:
>>How do you feel it will break down? And what
alternative should we strive for?

I take it you guys have not heard of Peak Oil. It is a
theory by a scientist who predicted the US was going
to stop finding more Oil in the 1970's (which really
happened). He calculated that the whole world would
stop finding more Oil around the year 2,000 which
would be the Peak on Oil production for all times.
Hence "Peak Oil". More recent calculations predict the
Peak anywhere between 2007 through 2030.

Globalism will start dying as soon as the cost of
shipping stuff around the world raises too much. No
one will want to buy overseas if they have to pay
twice the price of what you get local. Well, with Oil
running scarce, and China gobbling up more and more
Oil each year, the transportation prices will soar
shortly after Peak Oil happens. And gas / diesel
prices will keep on climbing up until our ships,
airplanes, trains and cars run on some other fuel...

Do you know what else will raise it's price a LOT when
Oil raises theirs ? Fertilizers. They are made with
Oil byproducts. Pesticides. Same thing. Weed killers.
Ditto

So buckle up for a few rough years of expensive gas
from now on until all is converted to this new fuel
(hydrogen ? natural gas ? nuclear ? ethanol ?.. )

As for "what alternative should we strive for?", we
homesteaders are on the right path: Produce your own
food, heat your house with your own wood, sell food at
local markets... When/if gas gets to $10/ gallon no
one in the East Coast will be able to afford
California dairy or produce, let alone imported
foodstuffs. So they will line up at the local market
to buy OUR food!
