>But the original post talked about convincing rural voters that the Democrats are no longer devoted sophists for corporations.
You use the word sophist different than I; I don't understand your point. Are you suggesting that Democrats are the close friends of big corporations? I presume you are aware of the historic tension between owners and workers; it is the workers with whom the Democrats are commonly allied. And are you referring to specific corporations or corporations in general? I think it is widely understood that big business and Republicans are bedfellows.
These are the illusions I used to believe in too. Besides, from this we just conclude that Republicans were behaving as expected, and Democrats were wolves in sheep's clothing stabbing us in the back.
Didn't the Democrats control both houses after the '92 election? I don't see how it's possible to get anything out of this other than that, in general, Democrat politicians supported NAFTA wholeheartedly. At that point you can take the position that NAFTA is good, and defend that if you like, but there's no way to blame NAFTA on the Republicans.
In California and many other states, fault in auto accidents is determined by the "last clear chance" law. Whoever had the last clear chance of avoiding an accident is the one to blame. That was clearly Clinton on the day he signed it.
BTW, every time I've seen "Sophist" refer to an actual ancient Greek, it was always capitalized. Now I like to use it, in lower case of course, to refer to any slime bucket whose mouth and vote always go where the dollars are.
