I'm sorry the message wasn't clear as to
the *location* in the book - hot desert
as in Africa where there's a lack of water
for cleaning - a glazed inside surface of
a building (like the inside walls/ceiling/floor ?
in the small domes in the link you supplied)
provides no place for insect shelter/hibernation
which was one of the strong points for
the labor of doing the 'glazing'.

Cheaper to stucco the outside.
