Ah, yes ... and isn't it a pity that *women*
must follow what "man" imposes on 'himself" ?

Although I meant "man" as in the animal man, not the gender man, I agree
with you. Women have been oppressed a long time. In modern times it is
because most women do not stand up for themselves at the polls or anywhere
else. They have been brainwashed into beleiving that they truely are
"second class". It seems that whenever a woman tries to "break the glass
ceiling" in either the political world or the corporate world, she tries to
do it by out-"man"ing the men which translates into acting like a royal
"bitch". This puts off both men and women. I do understand that we need to
play the game that is in place, I just think we need to change the rules.

>From Toni:
Also, since gawd is seen only by "innocents",
drunks, or the insane, and not recently
either - and since there are ever so many
gawds - and even more interpretations of
what any purported gawd is supposed to
have said, "therein lies the rub" (or whatever
it was ?Shakespeare? is supposed to have
observed/written) :

just *which* of the *endless* supply of past
and present, and future gawds', too, rules
are the ones that apply ?

The sermonized one that I've been most familiar
with is claimed to be omnipotent and omnipresent -
but from the looks of what's going on in *this*
world, doesn't concern itself with *us*.

As for any 'next life', if Houdini couldn't get back,
I don't hold out much hope for there being any ...

I learned a long time ago not to listen to the man in the pulpit. Rarely do
his words convey what is written. Modern (and not so modern) religion
exists for the personal wealth and power of a few. When man figured out
that he could control the masses by claiming the backing of a god, religion
became the tool of the greedy and the power hungry. I believe in a God. I
do not believe in modern organized religion.

Toni, I don't remember, but.... do you have children? You can tell a child
repeatedly the things he needs to make his way is this world; to try to
teach him the things that you have found to be true and useful for his
success in life; to impart on him your feelings and attitudes that you hope
will bring him happiness; to convey the benefit of what you feel is the
wisdom you have gained that only comes from the years of "being there"; but
you know that although they have heard your words, the meaning will be
mostly ignored until they have experienced the results of not heading what
you have tried to teach them, and all you can do is just grit your teeth,
throw back your hands and let them figure it out for themselves.
