(Mothers Opposed to Bush)

By now most of you have heard about the Sinclair Broadcasting plan to
pre-empt normal programming and force it's 62 affiliates, many in key
swing states, to run an "attack" documentary on John Kerry-in
cooperation with the Swift Boat Veterans for Hate. Sinclair vice
president Mark Hyman said on a CNN interview that John Kerry and the
Democrats are like "holocaust deniers" and that if the Sinclair stunt
is an "in-kind donation to George Bush" then "every suicide bomb that
goes off in Iraq is an in-kind donation to John Kerry."

There are currently 6 very real and useful things you can do to
stop this heinous effort. First, a brief description of the
situation:

Sinclair Broadcasting, the largest owner of local television stations
in the US, ordered its 62 stations to preempt regular programming to
air an anti-Kerry documentary just a few days before the election.
According to the company's webpage Sinclair's television group
includes 20 FOX, 19 WB, 6 UPN, 8 ABC, 3 CBS, 4 NBC affiliates and 2
independent stations and reaches approximately 24% of all U.S.
television households. In April, Sinclair communications corporate
counsel decided to pull a special Nightline broadcast devoted to
reading the names of those fallen in combat from their 8 ABC
affiliates.Sinclair's mission is clear: sway the election in favor of
an administration that lets companies like Sinclair get even bigger.
It's great for Sinclair's bottom line - terrible for our democracy.
This is not about 'liberal' or 'conservative.' It's about corruption,
the threat to democratic discourse, and the manipulation of
elections.
Together, we can stop them. But we have to act now. The good news
is you can do all of the below in your pajamas.
1. Very effective!! Boycott Sinclair Broadcast Group
http://www.boycottsbg.com/default.htm. Call advertisers letting them
know. Go to http://www.boycottsbg.com/advertisers/default.aspx
and look up a swing state of your choice. Then call all the
advertisers you can. It will only take a few minutes each call. How
many calls would you be willing to make to take this horrible
propaganda off the air? Remember, be polite! It's not the person
answering the phone's fault about a decision made by their CEO.

2. Contact local Sinclair affiliate stations in swing states and urge
friends in Sinclair markets to do the same.

3. Take your investment $ out of Sinclair When a company puts
politics over business, it loses stock value quickly. Since its plans
were announced, Sinclair's share price has dropped by 11%. That means
shareholders have lost $70,000,000 in just over a week.[2] Call your
fund manager or broker now to ask if you own any Sinclair stock. If
you own a mutual fund go toe Media
Mattershttp://mediamatters.org/items/200410130001

4. Sign the petition http://www.stopsinclair.org/. Currently there
are 115,000 signatures as of Friday October 15th, 2004 2:07:38 PM EST

5. Register your complaint with the FCC
http://www.freepress.net/sinclair/dn.php?zip=87501

6. Pass on this email!! Forward it to everyone you know who cares
about fairness in democracy- esp. those in swing states. Encourage
them to do the same.

Thanks for all that you do.

Best,

Holly
