I trust this list will help

Donald Juel, "The gospel of Mark" Abingdon, 1999 - ISBN: 0687008492

This is great treatment on the gospel. It is not as detailed as others but
offers the
big picture.

Juel, "A Master of Suprise: Mark Interpreted" Fortress press, 1994 - ISBN:
0800625943

This is a complement to the above, although not as comprehensive as the
"commentary."

Juel, "Mark," Augsburg Commentary on the New Testament, Augsburg Fortress,
1990, ISBN: 0806688564.

This is a commentary on the entire gospel. It is pithy, but very helpful in
getting the
whole story. Great for first time readers.

Elizabeth Malbon, "Hearing Mark: A listeners guide," Trinity PRess, 2002 -
ISBN:
1563383799.

Short, non-critical, but fun to read. Her insights into "hearing" are
helpful. I plan on
using this next semester in Mark.

Malbon, "In the Company of Jesus: Characters in Mark's Gospel," Westminister
John
Knox, 2000 - ISBN: 0664222552

Great on the issue of characterization.

Susan Garrett, "The Temptation of Jesus in Mark's Gospel," Eerdmans, 1998 -
ISBN:0802842593

Garrett developes the temptation motif fully in this book. It is helpful for
understanding the entire gospel as one of "temptation narrative.

Joanna Dewey, Donald Michie and David Rhoads, " Mark as Story: An
Introduction to
the Narrative of a Gospel" (Second Edition), Fortress Press, 1999. ISBN:
0800631609.

Creative, critical and above all else an excellent treatment on the gospel of
Mark as
literature. It also includes some helpful suggestions at the end for
students in the
area of narrative analysis.

Mary Ann Tolbert, "Sowing the Gospel: Mark's World in Literary-Historical
Perspective" Fortress Press, 1996. ISBN: 0800629744

A good book if you are interested in literary approaches to the gsopels.
Tolbert focus
a lot of time on structure and intertextual relationships.

W.R. Telford, The Theology of the Gospel of Mark, New Testament Theology,
Cambridge, 1999. ISBN:0521439779.

Very helpful for understanding the historical issues centered aroun Mark's
gospel.

Telford, "Mark" New Testament Guides, Sheffield Academic Press, 1997. ISBN:
1850757283

See above, the same comments apply to this work.

Ulrich Mauser, "Christ in the Wilderness: The Wilderness Theme in the Second
Gospel and its Basis in the Biblical Tradition" SCM Press, 1963. ISBN: not
available

The is a standard work on the wilderness motif in Mark's gospel. It is
wonderful
reading.

I also have a working bibliography on journal articles on Mark if anyone
would like it.

Also, I have engaged Watt's work and have found it to be very helpful,
especially the
introduction.
