Right, I was a bit confused on my end as well as far as whether I was using
named pipes or named instances, but it's definitely a "named instance" or
just "instance". So I reference it in my PHP connection string the following
way:

$host = "server\instance";
mssql_connect($host, $user, $pass);

So... the question is can I use named instances or are those not supported
along with named pipes?

Frank gave me a few tips that I'll try out this morning, but let me know if
I'm wasting my time. Unfortunately, I am stuck with referencing my server
this way and I also can't change the way I connect via PHP either.

Thanks for all your help... and Frank, didn't mean to go behind your back or
anything, I'm just desperate :)

Thanks guys,

Patrick

Hi Frank,

Not sure where you got that? Something he said to you? His post here
said "named instance". That's the 2000 feature that lets several
"instances" of the server run on the same machine, listening to different
ports.

AFAIK, too. ;-) I can't see a reason even to think about adding them.
