After moving the conf file to a different name:
[root etc]# ll
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2478 Oct 18 12:30 zzz_freetds.conf

And restarting apache...

I still get a segmentation fault:
[Fri Oct 19 09:15:37 2001] [notice] child pid 28828 exit signal
Segmentation fault (11)

Ok this may take a bit of leg work to solve, the big change from 0.51 to
0.52 was the freetds.conf file. If you are still using the interfaces
file then move /usr/local/freetds/etc/freetd.conf to another name and
see if the behaviour changes.
