Another useful source is Abraham Malherbe, ANCIENT EPISTOLARY THEORISTS, which translates Hellenistic-Roman handbooks on the writing of letters. There is some discussion of this material in Stowers and in Malherbe's GRECO-ROMAN MORAL EXHORTATION.
