This depends how one defines the Early Church. If you mean the Jerusalem
Church, headed by Jesus' brother James, I cannot see such hostility
developing. But if you mean the early Pauline Church, I certainly agree
that such hostility could and did develop and came to expression in the
Gospels, all of which, I argue, were written under Pauline influence. One
of the forms the hostility took was the transfer of blame for Jesus'
crucifixion from the Romans to the Jews (the apex of this campaign being the
Barabbas incident in which the Jews call an everlasting curse upon
themselves). There is not really any disagreement between us.
