I can't discount another person's experience, and I haven't shopped at Schoolkids in ages (I don't live in Chapel Hill, so I'm in a car when I'm there, and E. Franklin is just a royal pain in the ass, parking-wise, unless you want to pay *and* walk . . . )

But I think it's interesting that S'kids has had this rep for standoffishness going all the way back to '91 or probably even well earlier (I played "Nasty Little Chick" on the radio the other day, in tribute). Because when I start listing off Schoolkids employees in my head, I think of people like John Williams, Jay Murrie, Sarah Corbitt, Heather McEntire, Maria Albani . . .

Yes, some of them are assholes, but they're *engaging* assholes.

Others on that list haven't worked there in like 13 years, but I guess I'm saying that over the years there have always been at least a couple of people there who weren't standoffish tards. I think there's something else going on besides the personality of the people. Maybe having to stand there all day & endure the constant parade of freaks tends to wear a body down . . .

i used to buy all of my cds at schoolkids, but one day i decided to
check out cd alley. i've been hooked since. that's because cd alley
pays attention to the aspect that drives every small business;
customer service. i wish that schoolkids wasn't closing, but maybe if
theyseemed slightly interested when patrons entered the store, things
would be different. maybe i'm wrong, but in these dark times for music
retail, i feel like schoolkids forgot that every detail counts.
