I think the purpose either justifies the act, or it does not. That is the difference between an artistic statement that works and one that fails.

Additionally, Minor Threat is one of the best bands to ever walk the earth.

Seems to me that either appropriating other folks iconography for your own
twisted purposes is either ok or it's not ok. And aren't most of us who'll
be vomiting at Nike here the kind of people who think once art's out there,
there's no moral argument against someone appropriating it for their own
twisted purposes? In other words, while I certainly feel that a
culture-jamming david-v-goliath purpose makes an act of appropriation a
better work, it's not clear to me that the purpose itself is what justifies
the act.
