No, it doesn't. You don't have to have a bazaar-style development model to benefit from Free Content (or Free Software).

Consider: Alice makes Free Software, releases it, and forgets about it. Two years later, Bob finds it on a FTP server, likes it, modifies it, and starts maintaining it. It's a boon for the world. Alice and Bob don't have to share a CVS repository for their collaboration to occur.

Similarly: Charlie writes a song and releases the sheet music under by-sa. 5 years later, Danielle gets a copy of the music from a friend at her music school, records the song, and releases that under by-sa. It's a big hit, and after another year Egbert uses the song as part of the soundtrack for his movie.

Everyone benefits. Information and culture flow freely, and people's creativity isn't artificially restricted. Collaborations can happen across space and time because the conduits are open.

That's all Free Software and Free Culture are about. Digital media and the Internet allow us to collaborate and publish in interesting ways. Let's just do it.
