Did you try a different type of X?

No, and I won't be doing that. Knoppix was a "live" cd, and worked fine.
I have three different BL installations and one based on RedHat - they
have all failed to find the mouse.

You can try Xvesa and framebuffer X with DSL linux live CD which uses kernel 2.4. And kernel 2.6 with puppy live CD which offers Xvesa or a new Xorg. Sometimes drivers will not work with older kernel, and newer ones have fixed the bugs/conflicts. I have an offbrand laptop which works with 2.6 but with kernel 2.4 doing anything graphical freezes up both mouse and keyboard. What kernel and X is your Redhat using?

It seems to me that the problem would be solved by getting those Linux
distros to re-set the existing serial mouse. My question was how to go
about that in BL.
No idea how to do that.

Ron
