I should compile a gcc 3.4.6 kernel (2.4.33 instead of 2.4.31, maybe also
a 2.6 kernel which still uses hda instead of sda) and matching modules.

2.4.31 is from 2005.

linux-2.4.37.5.tar.bz2 30MB Aug 13 2009

Lots of bug fixes, plus 2.4.x USB and 1394 hotplug
Backport of usb-storage unusual_devs from 2.6.20
support high-speed HID

support for gcc 4 - this might solve a lot of compiling problems
Some hardware I think requires kernel 2.6.

Puppy linux stable provides packages with two versions of 2.6, one with sata and one without (sda vs hda). 2.6.25.16 vs 2.6.21 (beta version uses 2.6.29.6)

2.6.21.7 is Aug 4, 2007. About 45MB. I may get that too.

I like the structure of BL but it needs updates to work with more hardware and software.

The two laptops I was using with wireless just finished dying so it might be a few days before I get the source code. (My partner is going to try resoldering some joints).

Anyone more experienced want to help with this experiment?

Sindi
