Hi,
I would like to know about any xperience running BasLinux on a EeePC.
Sometime ago I heard about some problems with the vga chip included,
I think it is a Intel 915.

These Netbooks use an odd resolution of 800x480 pixels that maybe
could be difficult to setup in X window?
What about Wifi?
Thanks for your attention,
Bye!

Puppylinux is said to work well on eeePC and appears aimed at newer hardware than basiclinux (glibc and kernel both 2.6). Version 4 lets you choose Xvesa or X.org but probably only 640x480 resolution. Maybe they have the i810 driver. The 66MB Browserpuppy is said to work with eeePC and wireless, and has Firefox 3.5 and can do YouTube. Runs from live CD in 128MB or less RAM.

Debian has an eee.ko module for your odd resolution.
Ubuntu is said to work on the eeePC.

MilaX (openSolaris) eeePC liveUSB works with ethernet and wireless.

These all want lots of RAM (256MB for MilaX with X). Which you have.

BL is aimed at older hardware including 486s, with little RAM. (12MB for the floppy version, 3MB otherwise, 32MB with Opera browser). Xvesa is the standard video driver and does not support i810 well. It will be a challenge to get working on the eeePC but please let us know how it goes.

http://slackwiki.org/EeePC/xorg.conf Provides modelines for both 800x480 and 1024x600 for the 701.
Different from what Steven suggested:

Modeline "800x480" 29.58 800 816 896 992 480 481 484 497 -HSync +VSync #60 Hz

Modeline "1024x600" 48.96 1024 1064 1168 1312 600 601 604 622 -HSyn +VSync

virtual 1024 768

The InputDevice section defines edge locations - is this needed for the odd screen?

There are four modules in the modules section. Maybe needed only if you want to use the fancier features of the chip?
