I made /dev/hda1 = /boot partition, then /dev/hda2 = / and /dev/hda3 extended and /dev/hda6 my swap, and /dev/hda5 and /dev/hda7 as linux partitions. I mke2fs format all of the partitions, and mkswap /dev/hda6. I mounted /dev/hda2 to /hd, then install-to-hd. Reboot, hit CTRL at LILO, then hd root=/dev/hda2.
To install LILO to hd, I enter lilo -v
I eject floppy disk #1, then reboot. After the hardware info and BIOS version is displayed, it hangs up.
Where in this procedure did I go wrong?
Thanks,
TheBastard

There is nothing on my HD, I have a spare laptop with no OS, but I would like to copy BL3.5 directly to the HD. How do I do this?
Thanks again. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...

First, you need to partition the HD. I suggest you make
two partitions: a linux partition and a swap partition. You might also like to leave some HD space unpartitioned in case you want to create a third (or fourth) partition in the future.
The tool you use to partition the HD is fdisk:
-------------- fdisk /dev/hda -------------- press n to create a new partition (primary, not extended) press t to change the partition type (82 for swap).
I suggest you make the first partition (/dev/hda1) swap
and the second partition (/dev/hda2) Linux.
The second step is to format the Linux partition. The tool for this is mke2fs: ---------------- mke2fs /dev/hda2 ---------------- That assumes that /dev/hda2 is your Linux partition.
The third step is to mount your Linux partition at /hd: -------------------- mount /dev/hda2 /hd --------------------
The fourth step is to install BL3 to your Linux partition: ------------- install-to-hd
-------------
Cheers, Steven

Have you decided which server software to use?

If BL3 is working fine from the floppy boot, then your only issue is lilo. There are two possible ways to fix this. (1) Reformat your "boot partition" to be a DOS partition and use loadlin.exe to boot BL3. This is the method I use to boot my system. It has several advantages. -or- (2) Boot your BL3 partition using the floppy and edit /etc/lilo.conf. Remove the # that is at the start of the line that puts lilo in your MBR. Save the new lilo.conf and execute: lilo -v Reboot without the floppy. Cheers, Steven

How exactly do I use this lilo.conf to set up 2-floppy BL3 with lilo boot? Sindi >> lilo.conf >> --------------------- >> boot=/dev/fd0 >> install=/fd/boot.b >> map=/fd/map >> delay=50 >> compact (I would remove 'compact' which is causing my problem and add nomce.) >> read-write >> image=/fd/zimage >> label=BL3_ramdisk >> root=/dev/ram0 >> initrd=/fd/disk1.gz >> image=/fd/zimage >> label=hd
