Hi! Czerno speaking.
First a note, I found the sbpcd.o module to have dependencies upon
cdrom.o - I had to launch both, like so :
insmod cdrom.o
insmod sbpcd.o sbpcd=0x230,1
Clever. You may also need ide-cd.o and isofs.o to read data CDs.
That seemed to do it for the cdrom reader (I have yet to check that
it can indeed read a data CD).
Now, about lynx : I downloaded the lynx "2.8.5rel.1" plus the
Karolis's version is 2.8.16. For either version please also update cert.pem from cacert.pem.gz at my site. And keep it updated - I put a link to the update URL in my blfiles.htm.
lynx.cfg from keesan.freeshell.org, and let pkg install the stuff. As
a result, Lynx is able to browse the local file system, *but* any
attempt to browse to an internet object (URL) gives an
Alert! Unable to connect to remote host.
At the same time the built-in "links" browser is able to navigate
without restriction, which confirms networking is up.
What could be the problem with my lynx ?
You need libresolv and libdns from libc to use lynx online (or the IP number instead of the name of the site). They do not show up as dependencies with ldd. I should put a note about that. I used the glibc ones. If you install the complete glibc (part of which is needed by Opera) they will be in there.
David Moberg figured this out. His uclibc-static lynx also needed them.
I don't want to include them in my package because they have libc dependencies (BL3 and BL2 use different versions of them).
I'm still obliged to boot and log in to Windows for the mailing :-(
As soon as this ssue is resolved, I hope I'll be able to use lynx
itself for connecting to Yahoo! mail (needs https) & I'll be set to
communicate with the fine people on this list, at last, from BasLin !
Get Karolis's 2.8.6 lynx instead.
And yet another stoopid question : I understand the linux file system
resides on the initial ram disk; are changes saved back to the hard
disk when I log out of Linux ? They are, aren't they ?
Unless you boot from floppy BL3.
Cheers,
