This is probably due to a DOS TSR. Try booting a
naked DOS (without AUTOEXEC.BAT without CONFIG.SYS).

You can boot with a DOS boot disk with no autoexec.bat or config.sys.

Net adapter ? This is 3COM etherlink III
(ISA. IO ports @ 0x300. IRQ 10.
I can't find the appropriate "module"

I have about a dozen of these - 3c509.o
There is a DOS utility from 3com that you can use to reset the numbers permanently.

3c59x is for a newer PCI card.

One way is to cd to wherever you put the module, then type
insmod ./3c509.o io=0x300 irq=10

If you copy the module to /lib/modules/2.2.26/misc you can just
insmod 3c509 io=0x300 irq=10

That will use 3c59x.o or one of the
other 3c modules in the same directory.

how to install

Put the module in: /lib/modules/2.2.26/misc

What would the command line be ?

insmod 3c59x (or whatever the module name is)
Steven

That is correct for the pci card but not the ISA one, which needs parameters specified. Some ISA cards need helper modules but this one does not.
