What operating system is on the harddrive at the
moment? If it's DOS or Windows 95/98, you can use
the DOS version of BasicLinux. Simply create a
new directory: C:\BASLIN and put unzip bl3-50.zip
there.

Sounds like you can use USB to get bl3-50.zip into
the 486SX. Simply use whatever operating system
is there for the transfer. A laplink cable would
also work, or a network cable (if both systems have
NICs) or you could download bl3-50.zip directly into
the 486SX (if it has a modem).

You don't need to format the drive if it already
has DOS, Windows 95/98, or Linux running on it.
If you give us details about what partitions and
operating system(s) are on the drive, we can be
more specific.
