My ISP started requiring authentication for outgoing mail a couple of
months ago, which pmail does not handle. BL3 Sylpheed needs BL3 libX11.
So I compiled msmtp for BL2.

Can sylpheed be used with links2 in X?

It can in BL2 and BL3.

Where did you get the BL2 version? Can Sylpheed be used from the command line to send mail?

I tried the telnet method of sending mail (telnet URL 25; ...; helo ...; mail from: me@.. ; ....; rcpt to: them@....: - 'Please configure your mail client to use authorization'.

Can one authorize/authenticate mail sent via telnet as above? (See the archive for details). I made several wrong guesses trying to do this and cannot find info online.

David offered me his uclibc msmtp package, which I will try next.

Connecting to sdf to send mail also works, but I need to upload attachments first and once in a while sdf is down. Webmail for emergencies.
