That's considered by many to be a security risk.

An executable doesn't have to be in your PATH to be run:

./file_name # for a file in you current directory

/full/path/file_name # if it's anywhere else

I use /usr/local/bin and subdirectories thereof, usually. But if
it were a script serving a function that only root would customarily
be allowed to control, then .../sbin would be the place.
