You might want to look at possibilities at sdf. They have various levels of
service and quite alot of flexibility in
what you can do. It's sort of a socialist ideology. It runs on BSD, btw. You
won't get root priviledges by any means,
but you can do quite alot on their system. The disk space you'll be allowed
would never be near what you could get
setting up your own personal ftp server. But honestly: 80GB for ftp hosting?
What in the world would you use all that
space for? I would say 10 GB would be way more than enough. Anyway, it looks
like MetaARPA membership (US $36/yr) at
sdf allows the largest allocation of disk space--currently 800MB. You get
dynamic dns along with that, as well as
ability to run cron jobs and some other priviledges. You know best what you
need and want, but if you're looking for
alternate options, sdf might be worth considering.
