I may end up doing the same if it becomes important enough.

Aha !! That rings a bell with what I see in the /var/log/messages
of SW10 on that machine.

Slackware 10 has no problem with this motherboard, but thanks for the
offer. All things considered, I will bung in a PCI card when it become
important enough. I have a couple of spares here - a 3com and an old
realtek.
