Hi,
I have made a small initrd that loads usb modules and
mounts the usb drive then mounts the loop filesystem
in subdir baslin.
It is only 100kB

Many thanks, will try it soon. We just put linux (BL3 ext2) on two computers with USB and will try to add your initrd to the loop version so please do post it. (But one of them is leaving in 45 minutes).

if ytour pc has WinXP and cant boot directly from usb
then you can use syslinux to create a boot flopy
copy a kernel and this initrd and it will boot very
fast.
I will post the initrd or send by email if someone is
interested
Bye!

and you can't add much to it.

Then make a larger ramdisk. Or make a one-floppy
boot
(with PCMCIA capability for CF) for a CF root
filesystem.

Or burn a bootable BL3 CDrom.

I have never burnt a data CD, just copied music or
data CDs (via .raw
file) but thanks for the idea. We could put it on a
USB memory
stick and boot from David's 1-floppy USB BL. Boot
would still be much
faster than Windows, but the 9 year old might lose
the floppy disk and
CD-ROM or USB memory stick.

One of our laptops only reads OEM CDs.

Cheers,
Steven
