I should be able to answer any questions you have about
that model.

Our two ISA pcmcia controllers may be older than your laptop. They do NOT accept cardbus cards physically (something blocks them from going all the way in) but they work (in DOS and linux) with 16-bit Type II cards.
Windows crashed trying to set up drivers for one, after working with it one time (and detecting wireless signals). It made no objection to the drivers for the other one, but will not see any cards inserted in the slot. Are the pcmcia cards that don't fit into your slots cardbus, with gold strip and bumps on it at the end?

The one cardbus card (WPC11 ver 4) and the Cisco 16-bit card (for which I looked up the manfid since the card will not tell me) both worked with Win98 and picked up 100% signals from three routers, two of which also work with ethernet cable and were given us 'working' by friends. The Cisco was donated some place and I was testing it. Kermit told me an IP address of 199.174.189.14 which the Cisco utilities confirmed but I cannot ifconfig eth0 199.174.189.15 and ping 14. The Cisco aironet card apparently came with DOS and linux drivers but Cisco links to their drivers for this card no longer work, even the XP one (13MB). I got 1.3MB Win95 at Driverguide and will try airo_cs and orinoco_cs on the router signals.

There must be a better way to detect IP numbers than using Windows, for routers which are no longer set to defaults and don't work with Kermit via serial port.

I may take this computer to the library, use Windows to find the IP number, then linux to access the library internet with route add default gw.

How do I compile ONE pcmcia module?

Sindi
