The computer is obviously a bit odd since BL2 ramdisk won't boot either,
with standard 2.2.16 kernel. Gets stuck at 'Compressed image found at
block 0' and yes, I made sure 4dos was unloaded (which I hope also
unloaded any xmsdsk ramdisks).

2.2.16 and 2.2.26 kernels (Steven's standard ones) boot fine to BL2 ext2
and the latter to BL3 loop.

F5 during boot to DOS (bypass config.sys and autoexec.bat) fixed both boot problems. config.sys contains himem.sys and two .sys files needed for DOS USB which don't cause problems with boot on our other computers (or with booting to BL2 ext2 using 2.2.16 or 2.2.26 kernels). Odd. Some interaction between this hardware and this kernel, I guess.

I have set it to boot with 2.2.26 as default (bl2.bat), and we need to bypass config.sys to use 2.4.31 kernel for USB.
