I downloaded and installed icewm.tgz anew but there
is no change.

startx is apparently still bound to fvwm2 and I don't know how
to purge fvwm2 from my computer (how can one "purge" or "uninstall"
uner Slackware / BL3 ?).

xinit doesn't work either (see my one but previous message for
the messages startx and xinit provide)

icewm gives:

icewm: Can't open display: <none>. X must be running and $DISPLAY set.
