Version 5.78

I think this version is old. Is there some reason why you are after
this particular version?

A site I read said the latest version was 5.78e.

If you still want this version, a search reports that it is supposedly
available from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/. But this
site does not appear to be responding right now.

I have kernel source for that.

The driver I posted is the old, proprietary (Lucent?) driver. You
can't compile it from source. I don't know if the new driver will work
with 2.2.16, but I don't care since the old driver works well.
Where did you post the old driver for 2.2.16? Sorry if I am getting
confused.

I posted links to the old driver here on the list. Here is the posting:

https://lists.ibiblio.org/sympa/arc/baslinux/2006-January/009322.html

I got the linux568.zip file with the driver ltmodem.o.
If I use your static pppd, do I still need the replacement ppp.o for 2.2.16?

I will mknod ttyS14 c 62 78 and point eznet.conf at it for use with 2.2.16
(with different dialing script from 2.4.31 or 2.2.26 such as dial1 dial2 dial3 in chronological order and eznet up 1 2 and 3 (0 being the DOS modem).

The posting contains important details about how to set up the driver.
The directions were written for BL3.32 but the process is about the
same on BL2.

'Samsung' Manufactured 1990. My first one from 1986 got burn-in so was
dumped. The green light stays on the monitor when the computer is turned
off. On the newer VGA monitors it goes yellow.

This Samsung is probably using about 50W in screen blank mode.

More than my desk lamp, no point in blanking it, I should turn off the computer when not in use instead and the blanker hides the fact that it is not turned off.

I got the source code for the latest ltmodem and it needs a couple of things that I don't have (reading the section for 2.2.16).

pstree (from SW7.1 procps.tgz, maybe also a library from there)

/usr/lib/libg++.so.2.7.28 or later - I could not find any file of this type in SW7.1 8.1 or 9.1 - where does it come from? I have cxxlibs package from SW8.1, which contains libstdc++ - do I need a symlink to it?

I have the same or later versions for other required programs, or busybox insmod and ps, which I hope are new enough but do not tell you their version numbers with -V.

I am supposed to ./build_module but of course that exited with an error.
There is a source.tar.gz in the ltmodem* directory - do I need to ungzip it?

Instead of using lspci, which I don't have, I did
less /proc/pci
and found a line with 11c10440 on it, which identifies this as an ltmodem
(which I already know since it works with Ken's modules).
