I still have a DB50XG around, but as you can not connect it to modern hardware it is basically a dustcatcher. At least Yamaha has released the SW50XG which is basically a pure software-emulation of the ROM, the H8-RISC-CPU and the DSPs requiring fast MMX-systems. And I mean fast. My 800Mhz Athlon was too slow. My 1200Mhz Athlon did the trick. All the old XG-tunes work perfect. But it is windows-only and therefore offtopic. Btw, Yamaha gave SW50XG to me for free because the DB50XG wasn't usable in newer systems after I used the board for six years. Talk about service.
Btw, google the Internet for "soundblaster soundbanks". While most of them are far away from the mighty DB50XG many are really worth a try and beat the usually blunt timidity soundbanks. My 2 cent, don't go for the biggest soundbanks at first as a 512MB soundbank is in real life and on older hardware pretty useless. Try 2MB, 16MB for a start. They should work perfectly within timidity. Most of them are free as there is a big fanmovement of people which create their own soundfonts.
There was a great german site with literally dozends of soundbanks all in a row but I lost the URL :-(
