Has anyone tried Wordstar under dosemu or xdosemu?
I found several free Wordstar to html, rtf, or txt convertors.

I hope I still have a copy of it somewhere (for DOS).

I am checking out some free DOS wordprocessors under dosemu http://short.stop.home.att.net/freesoft/txtedit1.htm#wordproc

Ezword (over 700K) has a temporarily broken link.

Breeze (breeze56.zip) and Pcwords (Pcword.zip) are both under 400K.

I also tried DR-DOS edit, and the edit that came with freedos for dosemu, and my partner's editor.

Under plain dosemu:
My partner's editor works except for an occasional feature.
It is tiny (4K) but does line wrap correctly.

The freedos edit program works except line wrap does not progress to
the next line, it goes back to the beginning of the same line.

DR-DOS edit, breeze, and pcword are not usable because the background is tiled with box character and a lot of other characters come out incorrectly as upper ascii. I am using a Tseng card with Xvesa, which might be part of the problem.

pkunzip works fine, as does the DOS prot of cat. 'list' does nothing.

Under xdosemu all the text editors work. Freedos edit still does not line wrap correctly.

Pcword comes with a spellchecker and macros that I did not check out. It does only monospaced (fine with me).

Breeze was very easy to learn and the wordwrap works perfectly. You can type a file with the default (left margins) and word wrap, then save a version with the line returns stripped out (as file.str) and optionally the left margin also removed. It would work to type short files which I could then strip, and for centering or underlines I could type in rtf tags. Too bad it won't work under plain dosemu on this computer.

The program comes with a small dictionary. The spellchecker thinks ALL words are spelled correctly though, including spllchk.

I can't try anything else on the VGA monitor because Xvesa crashed on exit (Tseng video card seems to do that). I will have to remember to use xfbdev instead for xdosemu on this computer.

There is a standalone DOS spell checker Turbo Lightning which I have not yet tried.

Has anyone else tried a DOS text editor other than the one that comes with freedos under plain dosemu?

The computer where pictview does NOT work under xdosemu has not only an S3 Virge PCI video card but also onboard SiS AGP video. Netpbm also crashes on just that computer. Might the second video be a problem? We set BIOS to PCI/AGP not AGP/PCI.
