What version of BL would you recommend for the following machines:
1) 486 DX2 66Mhz, 32 MB RAM
2) Pentium 166 Mhz, 72 MB RAM
Personally, I would use BL3 with the 486 and BL2 with
the Pentium. With 72mb RAM the Pentium is powerful
enough to run demanding glibc binaries (like Opera),
which is easier on a BL2 foundation.
However, when I have a bit of spare time, I'd like
to experiment with installing libraries from a recent
Slackware on BL3 and trying to run Opera (or Phoenix).
Cheers,
Steven
Opera 7.5x is available compiled for Slackware 7.1 so should not even need a recent Slackware glibc. 7.23 needed glibc2.2.5 (SW8.1).
BL2 already comes with 'user' and a regular X server set up, which some people need for linux classes. lpr can't be run as 'root'.
