If by "clean dos" you mean no config.sys and no autoexec.bat
then loadlin.exe is probably not the problem. That leaves
the filesystem. The DOS version has a loop filesystem (fs.img).
It must be located on the C: drive and it must be located in
a directory called BASLIN. The BASLIN directory must not be
a subdirectory of another. These are not suggestions. The
loopfile will not boot unless it is sitting in C:\BASLIN

My BL3 loop file boots with loadlin on all but two computers, and I have it working from D:\baslin, e:\baslin, and f:\baslin as well as c:\baslin.
I tried without DOS system files too. BL2 ramdisk/HD and BL3 HD boot with loadlin okay on these computers. It is the computer hardware somehow.
the only time it has worked for me was when i used it with
bochs emulator, using either freedos or dos 6.
What is this? I would be interested to try it on our two Gateways.

Are you able to create a DOS6 boot disk? If so, try booting
the system from that, go to C:\BASLIN and execute boot.

Cheers,
Steven
