The simpler alternative would be to use a different keyboard but I am trying to learn something from this one. Again, is there some way to use BL2 or BL3 to make a boot disk from boot.img? dd if=/dev/boot.img of=/dev/fd0?

Another keyboard works with BL2 on this computer. I will see if this keyboard works with BL2 on another computer.

Agreed this is a kernel problem with the keyboards blinking as David
suggested. However, with the DSL Live CD nothing can be changed as it is
fixed. Hence, it is best to move to another live CD which in my suggestion
would be Vector Linux. Incidentally, I had the same problem with Puppy Linux
as well as BBC Linux. DSL is based on Debian, Knoppix is also based on
Debian, Knoppix will work on the same PC, this clearly tells that it is DSL
that is lacking something extra that the PC hardware wants.

The other option would be to install DSL on another PCs hard drive that
works, make the kernel really good(upgrade, configure, add modules whatever
else needs to be done). Then make a live CD of this. In my personal opinion,
it is simpler to switch to another more compatible live CD, than to spend
time on mending DSL. In my personal experience Murphy's Law holds good,
sometimes when I try to solve a problem I get two new problems, each of these
creates other new problems. Then, if there is a simpler/faster alternative I
prefer to take that.
