I used BL3 as an xterminal via serial connection which is much slower than 10MB ethernet, and it worked (but I had a lot more RAM) so I don't think your connection was the problem. Slow cpu, little RAM. Maybe a 486 with 4MB RAM would work better? You can start linux with loadlin zimange mem=4M etc.
(mem=4m?) to test any computer with that little memory.

I did not use startxt, just export DISPLAY ..... from one computer to the other and startx on the faster computer.

We are trying to fix a 386 with 5MB RAM (and dead CMOS battery and LCD backlight bulb) and could try it on there some day. But people are starting to give us working pentium laptops now.
