Abiword does not work for me in the newest baslinux

What do you mean by "does not work"?
Are you getting an error message? A crash?
Or what?

I also have installed the icewm. Does it require
more colors?

I think icewm works with just 16 colors. But more
is better.

Steven, I recall you saying something about needing to change something in the icewm package to get it to work properly with Abiword. Am I correct and if so, have you done this? I have been waiting for the new icewm before installing the latest BL3 with Abiword.

My Xconfig is set at 600x800.

That is not a valid config. Do you mean 800x600?
800x600x12 is better. Even 640x480x12 is better
for AbiWord.

I tested out Xvesa at various color depths and if you set it to color depth 12 it uses the exact same amount of RAM (and looks the same) as depth 15 (on cards which support that) or 16 (on cards which don't do 15). Xvesa chooses some color depth close to what it does support if you ask it for something it does not support - it may round up or down. 8-bit does not work properly and I think it rounded 9 and 10 and 11 to 8-bit, but 12, 13 and 14 to 15-bit (32K colors).

So I think 800x600x12 is really 800x600x15.

It sounds like Abiword requires at least 15-bit color (or 8-bit but Xvesa won't do that properly - the colors come out very strange). Opera 7 won't work with 4-bit color (16 colors) (Opera 6 accepted mono), nor will flwriter.

Cheers,
Steven
