Have you installed the pcmcia.tgz package (from Slackware 3.5)?

Before you can ifconfig eth0, you need to install your ethernet
card at eth0. This is done by executing:

/etc/rc.d/rc.pcmcia start

Do you have a modem on your laptop? Is it a winmodem?

If isdn is via ethernet, then BasicLinux 1.8 may be able
to use it. I think analog is dial-up ppp.

pppsetup for dial-up ppp.
