Or it may be used to but expand the word stock of the Hebrew language. For instance, the hiphil השתיק HI$TIYQ, 'silenced, hushed up', (there is also השתין HI$TIYN, 'urinated'), versus the piel שיתק $IYTEQ, 'paralyzed'.
