David,

Karl is right: no meaning "to endure with / tolerate" in Am 3:3.

I see no relation between this Niphal (Am 3:3) and the word in Ex 21:8 (unless, of course, that they share the root).

For the pattern of the word in Am 3:3 look also at Ez 26:19 (root ya$ab) and Ps 77:20 (root yada')

Greetings

Pere Porta

Dear list members.

Part of Karl's comment is indeed correct - I made a mistake with the identification of the root.  It is indeed Y(D as Karl pointed out.  Nevertheless, I stand by the basic point of my comment "that Amos 3:3 is the niphal of the same root and means "to endure with / tolerate."

“Do two people go together except they were summoned to meet?” Amos 3:3

Where is the “to endure with / tolerate”?

And that this equally applies to Ex21:8.

I would be delighted to hear your comments,
