Part of Karl's comment is indeed correct - I made a mistake with the identification of the root.  It is indeed Y(D as Karl pointed out.  Nevertheless, I stand by the basic point of my comment "that Amos 3:3 is the niphal of the same root and means "to endure with / tolerate."

Where is the “to endure with / tolerate”?
 
  And that this equally applies to Ex21:8.
