In my humble opinion טמא TAME is a variant of the extra-biblical טמע 'include, dissolve,
embody, ensconce, conceal', namely, טומאה is something inherently ill concealed 
in an infected or contaminated body. It is also related to the טמה TAMAH of Lev. 11:43, the טמן TAMAN, 
'concealed', of Deut. 33:19, and also the אטם ATAM, 'sealed', as in Is. 33:15.

Appears to me that טהור TAHOR is 'clearly good, pure, guarded'.
