In my humble opinion טמא TAME is a variant of the extra-biblical טמע 'include, dissolve, embody, ensconce, conceal', namely, טומאה is something inherently ill concealed in an infected or contaminated body. It is also related to the טמה TAMAH of Lev. 11:43, the טמן TAMAN, 'concealed', of Deut. 33:19, and also the אטם ATAM, 'sealed', as in Is. 33:15. Appears to me that טהור TAHOR is 'clearly good, pure, guarded'. Isaac Fried, Boston University On Mar 24, 2013, at 1:29 AM, Yigal Levin wrote: And what does Tameh mean? |
