Take for example Gen. 7:23. In the first וימח WA-YI-MAX = BA-HI- MAX, the prefixed personal pronoun היא HI, refers to the perpetrator of the act MAX, 'wipe out', while in the second וימחו WA-YI-MAX-U = BA-HI-MAX-HU, both the prefixed personal pronoun היא HI, and the suffixed personal pronoun הוא HU refer to the target of the act MAX, namely the YQUM.
