Oh, how true. I've fallen for that one before too. I must look for that
missing dagesh lene! :)

It is not in a closed syllable, therefore it is a qamats. The schwa under the
third bet is vocal (or at least medial) as indicated by the absence of a
dagesh lene in the kaph.
