Dear Kevin,

Read again. In verse 11, God threw big stones from the sky, which chased the Canaanites from Beth-horon to Azekah. "Stones" ("avanim"), not "hailstones" ("barad"). This is a totally supernatural phenomenon, with no storm. THEN, in verse 12, Joshua speaks to God in front of the Israelites, asking that the sun and moon stand still. There's no direct connection between the two.

Likewise, another important element about the Joshua 10 passage is the
unremarked appearance of the hailstones, absolutely storm-related.
These are not mentioned as anything unexpected or separate from the
"sun/moon stopping," though their size is extraordinary.
